一、动态名词的定义和相互转换

动态名词的定义：由动词演变而来的名词，或带有动词词性的名词。多用名词而少用动词是英语中的一大特色，由于动词的减少而造成英语中的句子较长。

【例1】The teacher deeply appreciates the students’s work. 老师十分欣赏学生的学习。

【解析】该句子可以改写成The teacher has a deep appreciation of the student’s work.

1.主谓结构的动态名词转换

The social system exists.-----the existence of the social system

2.宾语结构的动态名词转换

Emphasize an important manuscript-----the emphasis on the quality of life

3.主谓宾结构的动态名词转换

She visits Beijing.-----her visit to Beijing.

二、动态名词的常规处理方法

对待动态名词的翻译，遵循中文习惯将名词改译为动词。

【例2】Mastery of a language requires painstaking efforts.

【翻译】学好语言非下苦功不可。

三、综合例句

【例3】The greatest results in life are usually attained by simple means, and the exercise of ordinary qualities.

【翻译】生命中最伟大的成果通常是运用简单的方法和普通的品质达到的。

四、特殊句子处理

1.动态名词出现在have , give , make , take , keep , pay , put , lay , show , find 等词语之后时，通常不再翻译前面这些只具备语法功能而不具备表意功能的词。

【例4】He promised to give his personal attention to the matter.

【翻译】他答应亲自关注这件事情。

2.动态名词的属性

【例5】Kevin’s singing of Andy Lau’s songs is exceptionally good.

【翻译】凯文唱刘德华的歌唱得非常好。

五、动态形容词的翻译

对于动态形容词我们的处理方法也是将其翻译为动词。

【例6】Although we feel dissatisfied with the election results,we have to become reconciled to the decision made by our fellow countrymen.

【翻译】虽然我们不满意选举的结果，但是只得服从大家的决定。

【解析】句中出现动态名词measure，在翻译的时候应该处理为“衡量任何一个社会机构的价值”。
