Title: Unit 2 Colour(9A)

Content: Colours and moods (Reading I)

Aims: 1.To learn about the effects of 4 kinds of colours

2.To know that colours can affect moods and different colours represent different characteristics .

3.To help the students match the colours with their characteristics.

4.To master the reading skills of scanning and skimming.

5. To use the colours and moods in their daily life to enjoy their life.

Important and difficult points: 1.… make sb.feel + adj.

2.… represent + n.

Methods: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing

New words: relaxed, stressed, satisfied, jealous, mood

Procedures:

Step 1: Leading in and present some new words

1. Revise the colours of a rainbow.

T: Yesterday we learned some colours .Here is a rainbow in the picture.

How many colours does a rainbow have?

What are they?

2. Present four kinds of colours.

T: Now look at these pictures.

Picture 1 is a room. The wall was painted blue. The desk was painted white. Blue and white are calm colours; If you live in this room, you will feel calm and peaceful. Picture 2 is a room, too. It is an orange and yellow room. Orange and yellow are warm colours; Picture 3 is green and green is an energetic colour. Picture 4 is red and red is a strong colour.

3. Revise the words used as describing moods and learn some new words.

T: The world is full of colours. However, Do you think that colours can affect our moods? (Yes. Colours can affect our moods. Colours can also change our moods and make us feel happy or sad, energetic or sleepy.)

Today I’m feeling energetic. Do you know why? Because I’m wearing green. Green can make me feel energetic. Is that interesting? Yes. We can use colours to describe our moods. What else can describe our moods? For example, happy tired….Let’s learn some new words: relaxed, stressed, satisfied, jealous, mood. All these words can describe our feelings.

Step 2: Books open! Read and answer:

Q1: How many kinds of colours are talked about in the text? What are they?

Four. They are calm colours, warm colours energetic colours and strong colours. (It is clever of you to answer the questions. When we read something quickly, we can first pay attention to the title. Each paragraph has a title.)

Step 3: Read the text carefully

(1)Listen ,While listening ,skim over the text and try to find out what colours belong to calm colours, warm colours, energetic colours and strong colours. And then do true or false. Clear?

2) Read,translate and then say true or false to the following sentences: 1.Colours can affect and change our moods. They can make us feel happy or sad, energetic or sleepy.(T)

3. Blue is a calm colour and can make you feel relaxed. It can create the feeling of harmony.(T)

4. White is the colour of purity. It won’t make you feel stressed.(T)

5. Orange and yellow are warm colours and can give you a happy and satisfied feeling.(T)

6.If you feel tired or weak, you should wear green.(T)

7.Red represents a strong feeling; it can help you take actions.(T)

(2)Read the text carefully, pay attention to the details. This is another reading skill. While reading, try to find out adjectives and n. words describing our moods.

(3)According the text, put the right colour words in the following sentences:

1. If you are feeling stressed ,you may wear white to make you feel relaxed.

2. If a person says ‘I am feeling blue.’, that means he feels sad today.

3. I like yellow because this colour can bring me a happy and satisfied feeling.

4. If you feel sad, you may wear orange because this colour can cheer you up.

5. Green can provide us with energy.

6. If you have difficulty making a decision, wearing red makes it easier for you to take action.

Step 4: Activities

(1)Discussion: Which picture do you like best? Why? Please say something about the colours and moods.

(2)Let’s talk about the colours and moods in our daily life.

(3)Here is a slang: Please guess ‘rea-eyed’. But in England, they say green-eyed. This is a difference between Chinese culture and Western culture.

Step 5: Homework

1) Read the new words and the text.
