Sleeping Problem

How much sleep do we need? We are all different. Some people need only three hours of sleep a night. Others need ten hours of sleep a night. Most Americans sleep an average(平均值)of seven to eight hours a night. After the age of fifty, the average sleep time goes down to 6.5 hours a night.

Most people have a night off when they cannot sleep. About one in three Americans has a problem with sleep. Many of these people cannot fall sleep. This problem is called insomnia.

This is not a new problem. Many famous people in history have insomnia. Some of these people had special ideas to make them sleep. Benjamin Franklin, the famous statement(政治家)and inventor, had four beds. The King Louis XIV of France had 413 beds and hoped he could fall asleep in one of them. Mark Twain, the famous American writer, had a different way. He lay on his side across the end of the bed!

Baseball is one of the favorite sports in the USA . Children play basketball in sports fields or parks.

In summer picnics, there is often an informal(非正式的)baseball game. Boys and girls, young and old take turns to bat. Each team has nine players.

The baseball season goes from April to September . During this time, baseball matches are shown on TV and members of the important baseball teams become America’s heroes. At the end of the season, the two top teams play against each other. Many baseball fans watch the game. Millions listen to the radio and watch television. People seem to talk only about the result and the players. The football season begins when the baseball season ends. People are also interested in football. When there is an important game, thousands of people sit beside the radio or in front of the television set waiting for the result.
