Step 1: Revision
1.In unit 11, we learned some ways of asking for information politely. Now, if you want to go to a restroom, how can you ask?
1)Do you know where I can find a restroom?
2)Could you tell me how to get to the restroom?
3)Would you please tell me where the restroom is?
2.Discuss things that are good / bad to do in the school. Fill the blank

Raise your hands before talking

Not finish homework

e.g.: You’re supposed to come to class on time.
You‘re not supposed to eat in the class.
3.Ask students to repeat the example by using the phrases.
4.Be supposed to do sth. 应该做某事be not supposed to do
Step 2: listening
This activity gives students practice in understanding the target language in spoken convention.
1.Play the tape twice. The first time, students only listen. The second time, students check their answers to Activity 1a.
2.Invite a student to read his answer and check the answers with the class.

Step 3: Oral practice
1.Ask two students to read the example in the box.
A: What are people in Korea supposed to do when they meet for the first time?

2.Students work in pairs to make conventions by using the lists of customs and countries in 1a.
3.Ask different pairs of students to ask and answer a question for the class.
Step 4: Reading
This activity provides reading practice using the target language.
1.Teach the new words. Show them on the blackboard.

Go out of one’s way to do sth. 不怕麻烦做某事

2.Invite a student to read the e-mail and correct his pronunciation errors if necessary.
3.Do some detailed instructions to the class.
1)Have a great/good/wonderful time doing sth. 很愉快/高兴做某事
2)Even程度副词,放在比较级前,表示多得多
3)Be/get used to doing 习惯于做used to do 过去常常做
4)Go out of one’s way to do sth. 不怕麻烦做某事
e.g.: We go out of our way to clean the classroom every day.
5)How quickly my French has improved!
感叹句的结构:What+ (a/an) +adj. +主+谓! How+adj/adv. +主+谓!
e.g.: What a lovely girl she is! = How lovely she is!
How quickly he runs!
4.Listen to the tape and then ask the students to read the e-mail.
Step 5: Summary
In this class, we’ve learned some new words, the key vocabulary “be supposed to”, some customs in different countries, and how to write an e-mail.
Step 6: Homework
Write an e-mail about the table manners in Japan before reviewing the rules of writing an e-mail.
