I. Teaching target

1. students can use “if I… I would…” to talk about some imaginary and subjunctive situation.

2. students can raise suitable suggestions to certain cases.

3. encourage students to express their opinions bravely.

II. Guiding design

Step 1 warming up

topic: Do you want lots of money?

What would you do if you had lots of money?

Teacher list several verbal phases on the board according to students’ answers. Then show the standard expression:

A: What would you do if you had lots of money?

B: I’d/ I would…

Ask several pairs to present their conversations.

Step 2 presentation

Task 1: activity 1b Listening

First look at the picture, then listen to the recording carefully and number the order. The 2nd time try to repeat the important sentences.

Task 2: activity  1c Speaking in groups

A: What would you do if you had a million dollars?

B: I’d…

C: What would A do if you had a million dollars?

D: He/ She would…

Ask several groups to present.

Task 3: Listening

First look through the 5 sentences and the picture of activity  2a

Then listen to the recording carefully.

The 2nd time, first look through the sentences then listen again and complete activity 2b.

Step 3 application

Students read the 11 sentences of activity  2a and 2b, emphasize the expression “ If I were you, I’d…”

Lead students to compare the usage of “if” in subjunctive mood (mainly against the fact ) and the usage in Adverbial conditional clause.

1) if引导的虚拟语气 时态需向前推

if条件句______从句动词_________主句

对现在虚拟____did, were _________would, could, should+动原

优生理解对将来虚拟____should do___ would, could, should+动原

_____were to do

____were, did(较少,常有时间状语)

优生理解对过去虚拟____had done _______would, could, should + had do

2) If引导条件句 一般用一般现在时代替将来时(主将从现)

eg: If it rains tomorrow, I'll not go there.

Task 4: Production ( activity  2c ) speaking and writing

Speak in pairs about the given situation

Step 4 sum- up

Ask students to retell what we learn today

Step 5 Homework

1. Write a passage to describe Larry’s worry and give her your advice.

2. Exercise Book.

3. Preview the next part of Unit 4.
