■ Hello, class. Have you ever heard of Vienna?

Vienna is the capital of Austria, and also one of Austria's nine states.

Art and culture have a long tradition in Vienna, in the areas of theatre, opera and the fine arts.

Vienna also offers a great many opportunities for fans of the opera.

In recent years, the Theater an der Wien has become widely known for hosting premieres of musicals.

Finally, many Roman Catholic churches in central Vienna feature performances of religious or other music, including masses sung with classical music and organ.

■Reading and vocabulary

1 Look and match.

On page 36, you see six words and six pictures. Read the words and look at the pictures. Match the pictures with the words.

2 Read and check.

On page 36 you see a long passage. It is about Vienna and its great composers.

Now let’s go on to read the passage. While reading try to cut(断句)/ the sentences into parts, blacken(涂黑) the predicates, shade(加影) the connectives and underline (划线)the expressions.

Now write all the expressions in your Expression Book.
