Text 10
The religion of the ancient Egyptians was based on nature. The sun, the wind and the animals which the Egyptians used on their land were all important in Egyptian religion. The chief god was Ra who represented the sun. But the Egyptians had many other gods, some of whom had the heads of animals. Bast was the goddess of love, and she had the head of a cat. The Egyptians also believed in another life in which the soul of a man could live on if the body was preserved in a special way.
The word “mummy” comes from an ancient Egyptian word meaning “tar”, and tar was one of the things which the ancient Egyptians used to preserve the body after death. The bodies were then wrapped in cloth, and dressed with jewels and necklaces. A mask was placed over the face of the dead person. And for the very important people, the mask was made of gold. The body of the dead person was buried together with things that the person had used during his life on earth, and things which he would need in the next life. Some of the tombs in which the bodies were kept were huge and beautiful structures. They were full of rare and expensive treasures.

When I was in Senior High School, most of my teachers and students thought it better to study science, saying that it promised a better future. I tried to follow this trend despite the fact that I was not good at physics. It was only two months later, when I failed an extremely important physics exam, that I realized my talent lay in subjects like Chinese, English as well as history. I switched for arts immediately.
The following years witnessed my excellent school performance. So failure is not as terrible as we have expected as long as we can learn something from it.
