Amy was looking for a gift for her little daughter. Suddenly she stopped before a store of dolls. “Girls like dolls,” she thought as she stepped into it. Looking around, she saw a grandma doll – one with gray hair and a pair of glasses. In her mind appeared Joyce, her mother.

When Amy was a little girl, she got her first doll from Joyce for her birthday. Then the second, the third... A doll a year from Joyce never arrived late.

“Why always a doll?” This question had been in Amy’s mind until one day her father gave the answer.

Little Joyce dreamed to have a doll. Her parents promised one for her fifth birthday. Sadly, they both died in a traffic accident before it arrived. The never-received gift was the most valuable in her eyes.

Maria Montessori was born in Chiaravalle near Ancona, Italy, in 1870. As a little girl, she was a dull student, unable to catch and remember what her teacher taught her. At the age of 10, she suddenly changed. Besides her rising interest in her subjects, she felt she had a long way to go.

Maria began topping her class, and her parents felt that she should become a teacher. But she made up her mind to become an engineer. At the age of 14, she attended a technical school for boys. After a year she took up biology and decided to study medicine. Although her father was strongly against it, she went ahead with medicine.

Maria became the first Italian woman to receive a medical degree after she graduated from the University of Rome in 1896. After getting her degree, she joined the university’s psychiatric  clinic(精神病诊所). As a part of her duty, she had to visit the city’s special shelters, where disabled children were housed with the mad. She watched the children shouting, waving their hands, with a hope to reach out or to touch something. Maria felt they needed a normal and friendlier environment and a communication with the world. She worked out ways in which she could help the disabled children. Later, Dr. Bacelli opened an experimental state school for disabled children with Dr. Maria Montessori as its head. Maria spent long hours, almost 12 hours of the day with children, watching them and finding out how she could really help them. It seems that no one can live a happy life without friendship. While a great number of people expect others to be their friends, they don’t give friendship back. That is why some friendships don’t last long. To have a friend, you must learn to be one. You must learn to treat your friend the way you want your friend to treat you. Learning to be a good friend means learning three rules: be honest; be generous; be understanding.

Honesty is where a good friendship starts. Friends must be able to trust one another. If you do not tell the truth, people usually find out. If a friend finds out that you haven’t been honest, you may lose your friend’s trust. Good friends always rely on one another to speak and act honestly.

Generosity means sharing and sharing makes a friendship grow. You do not have to give your lunch money or your clothes. Naturally you will want to share your ideas and feelings. These can be very valuable to a friend. They tell your friend what is important to you. By sharing them, you help your friend know better.

Sooner or later everyone needs understanding and help with each other. Something may go wrong at school. Talking about the problem can make it easier to solve. Turning to a friend can be a first step in solving the problem. So to be a friend you must listen and understand. You must try to put yourself in your friend’s place so that you can understand the problem better.

No two friendships are exactly alike. But all true friendships have three things in common. If you plan to keep your friends, you must practice honesty, generosity and understanding.

63. Some friendships don’t last long because ________.

A. there are too many people who want to make friends

C. some people receive friendship but don’t give friendship back

65. Which of the following isn’t talked about in the passage?

D. Sharing your mind with your friends is valuable.

Personalized(个性化的) gifts for your family and your friends make them feel very happy and important. So what makes these gifts different from any other gifts?

One of the simplest ways to personalize any gift is by giving it a personal touch like cutting the receiver’s name on it. The art of personalizing may cost a little extra money but by doing it, it is sure to make the receiver know that this gift has been given much thought, thus making it more special. There are many of these types on the market – let us have a look at where this service is offered.

All gift shops provide personalized gifts. These gifts are usually designed according to occasions(场合) like Valentine’s Day, weddings, birthdays, etc. These events are made more special through the giving of personalized gifts.

Besides, gift websites also offer personalized gifts service through the Internet. This is a really perfect way of choosing a favorite gift. One can look through many gifts on different sites and choose a proper one. All of these can be done even without leaving the comfort of your home. It is also a good way to choose a gift as it helps you to save money. You can compare prices from different online stores, and then of course how can you forget about discounts (折扣) and sales? Another extra good point is that you don’t have to worry about shipping, for most of these sites already offer this service. However, you need to be very careful in choosing the right online store for buying these gifts. This is because of the fact that the Internet has been marred (破坏) by many cheats and not all of these sites have reliable services and quality.

The fact about personalized gifts is that they are suitable for all occasions. These gifts show off your creativity and your loved ones will forever remember the way you go all out to make their occasions special.

68. When you choose personalized gifts on the Internet, you can have the following benefits EXCEPT that _______.
