Two hours later my friend phoned me from the house. At the moment,he said,he was listening to some of my records after having had a nice meal.He had found the pan and meat in the refrigerator. Now,he was drinking a cup of tea and hoped that I would join him soon. When I asked him if he bad any difficulty finding the house,he answered that the only problem was that he had not been able to find the key under the doormat, but luckily, the living room window by the apple tree had been left open and he had climbed in through the window.I listened to all this in great surprise. There is no apple tree outside my window, but there is one by the living room window of my next-door neighbor’s house!

Your body, which has close relations with the food you eat, is the most important thing you own, so it needs proper treatment and proper nourishment (营养).The old saying “An apple a day keeps the doctor away ”is not as silly as some people think. The body needs fruit and vegetables because they contain vitamin C. Many people take extra vitamins in pill form, believing that these will make them healthy.

But a good diet is made up of nourishing food and this gives all the vitamins you need. The body doesn’t need or use extra vitamins, so why waste money on them?

In the modern western world, many people are too busy to bother about eating properly. They throw anything into their stomachs, eating hurriedly and carelessly. The list of illnesses caused or made worse by bad eating habits is frightening,

61.“Your body has close relations with the food you eat.” It really means that ______.

A. all kinds of food you eat can be made into your body

B. your body is made up of the food you eat

C. what you eat has great effect on your health

D. the more you eat, the fitter you will feel

62. In the second paragraph, the writer tries to let us know ______.

A. our bodies need food or we can’ t live

B. often eating apples is a good habit

C. taking extra vitamin pills is completely useless

D. a good diet is of great importance for our health

63.In the modern western countries ______.

A. people don’t want to pay more attention to their eating

B. lots of people’ s illnesses are caused or made worse by bad eating habits

C. people throw everything into their stomachs without chewing

D. people are only too busy to cook meals for themselves

64.From the passage we can draw a conclusion that if we want to keep healthy, we should ______.

A. only eat an apple a day

B. eat properly

C. take as many vitamin pills as possible

D. throw something into our stomachs slowly and carefully

Two recent studies might end the great grocery bag debate. The debates over which type of grocery bag is best break down into two issues: which are better for the environment, and which are better for your health.

The first study focused on the question of cloth bag contamination(传染). It’s well-known that supermarkets offer many opportunities for people to pick up contaminated food: other shoppers contaminate shopping carts, and stockroom clerks contaminate containers. When shoppers put such things into cloth bags, they can contaminate the bag, and then wind up contaminating uncontaminated foods on their next shopping trip. Large numbers of bacteria were found in almost all bags.

Washing the bags might help, but researchers found that “reusable bags are seldom washed and often used for different purposes”.

The second study should end the “use reusable grocery bags” argument. In the study, researchers evaluated(评估)the bags on a set of environmental standards, including global warming potential. The table below shows how many times that non-HDPE bags must be used in order to bring their global warming potential down to that of an HDPE bag. The first column, for example, shows that a paper bag should be reused three times to reduce its global warming potential to that of an HDPE bag, while you have to use an LDPE bag four times, a non-woven PP bag 11 times, and a cotton bag up to 131 times to achieve the same end.

Type of carrier HDPE bag (No secondary reuse) HDPE bag (40.3% reused as rubbish bags) HDPE bag (100% reused as rubbish bags) HDPE bag (Used three times)

Paper bag 3 4 7 9

LDPE bag 4 5 9 12

Non-woven PP bag 11 14 26 33

Cotton bag 131 173 327 393

So the conclusion seems clear: the traditional, thin plastic bag has better environmental performance and is likely to be quite safer for human health.

65. The researchers in both studies might agree that ________.

A. we should reuse our grocery bags as much as possible

B. cotton bags are environment-friendly when they are reused

C. plastic bags are good for the environment and our health

D. grocery bags, if washed, can reduce global warming potential

66. The underlined phrase “wind up” in Paragraph 2 probably means _________.

A. give up B. end up C. pick up D. take up

67. What’s the problem with cloth bags according to the first study?

A. They are easily contaminated when reused.

B. They produce large numbers of bacteria.

C. They are poisonous and can pollute foods.

D. They need washing before being reused.

D

On hearing the words “Just do it!”, you will know there is a Nike product nearby. If it’s “Always Coca-Cola”, you can be sure someone wants to sell you a refreshing drink.

An advertising slogan(广告标语) is to a brand what eyes are to a person. The slogan helps people understand the brand better by telling them what it wants to sell to its customers.Good slogans leave a message inside people’s minds. It’s almost certain that every brand has a popular slogan.

Here are a few examples:

“Just do it!”—This slogan speaks out to teens. It tells them to do something, but only if they think it’s worth it.And if so, why not do it wearing Nike?

“Always Coca-Cola.”—Coke’s slogans change every few years, but this one has enjoyed a lasting popularity because it shows the brand’s spirit. It seems to say “Coke is the only drink there is; there are no other forms of drinks.”

“Share moments, share life.”—This slogan from Kodak connects photos and beauty. It asks people to remember the happy moments in life by taking photos of them—using Kodak film of course!

68.What would be the best title for the text?
