Good morning, everyone. I am ***. My number is *** from *** middle school. I am much honored to stand here and to share my teaching ideas about how I am going to teach the reading part of unit 2 model 5 Advances with English. My teaching plan includes three parts which are analysis of the teaching material, identifying the teaching aims and detailed teaching procedures.

Part 1 Analysis of the teaching material.

The title of this reading is “the economy or the environment must we choose”. After analyzing it carefully, I find two unique features about this article which may lead to difficult understanding for our students. First, the article is a debate, a new style that our students read for the first time. Second, although the topic of this article can easily arouse students’ interest because environmental problems can be found just around our daily lives, rarely have students discovered that it is the economic reason that causes that environmental problem.

Part 2 identifying the teaching aims

Have been knowing these two features, I will try my best to ensure my teaching method meet the requirement of modern social communication teaching theories and set following three aims for our students.

The first aim that is knowledge aim: students are expected to fully understand the view of both sides.

The second aim is known as skill aim: through reading debate, students are required to know that they should not draw a conclusion or show agreement until both sides have finished presentation.

The third aim is to cause our students to emotionally support or form the idea such as create a sustainable economy which would reduce environmental pollution.

Part 3 teaching procedures

In order to achieve above aims, I will choose reading and task-based teaching as my main teaching method as well as using pictures, multiplayer and recorder for aiding their understanding of the article.

Part 1 lead-in

First I will show them some pictures telling how serious that our earth is suffering from environment pollutions and at the same time some pictures telling how the products are produced to let them know producing cannot avoid pollution. The reason I show their pictures is to let them form opposite ideas, the same ideas which the two parts are arguing in the text. Of course, I will also encourage some students to express their views about whether economy or environment matters to their lives.

Part 2 fast reading

Have students read the text as quickly as possible to find the answers to the three questions in part A. I will remind students to only focus on and identify the information needed to answer three questions. The fast reading will help students gain the structure of a debate article.

Part 3 care reading

Care reading is considered difficult and important for our students to fully understand positive and negative views. To help them accomplish the goal, I will require students to read the text again and complete parts C1 and C2. Part C1 serves to improve their ability to locate the specific information while C2 will strength their ability. After checking their answer as a class, I will show two tables by the projector with some factors already filled in the blank. With these two tables, students divided into two groups will be asked to fill in the blank the detailed information they find from the text. By this activity, students are believed to fully understand the article.

Part 4 consolidation and exercise

In the part, I will first play the recorder to them to let them feel the actual debating. After this, I will recall their attention to fill the Part F which is designed to help students memorizing the words and phrases of the passage.

Part 5 discussion

In this part, I put forward a topic that how our factory can reduce pollution for them to discuss. This task is also accomplished by students in groups. The discussion will improve their ability to form and organize ideas properly. Given a short time preparation, I will encourage one or two groups to express their opinions. Although their opinions may be simple and impossible to realize, the ideas will seed in their mind to remind them that only with sustainable economic development, can they enjoy the beauties and lives that the nature bring to them.

Part 6 Homework

The homework is an extension of class. I will ask students to write down what they think about the text and encourage them to try to convince their friend or families with their points of view.
