To me, life without music would not be exciting. I realize that this is not true for everybody. Many people get quite well without going to the concert, and listening to the record. But music plays an important part in everyone’s life, whether he realizes it or not. Try to imagine, for example, what films or TV plays would be like without music. Would the feelings , the moving plot(情节),and the greatest interests be as exciting or dramatic(戏剧性)? I’m not sure about it.
Now, we have been speaking of music in its more common meaning——the kind of music we hear in the concert hall. But if we look at some parts of music more closely, we discover them in our everyday life too——in the rhythm(旋律) of the sea, the melody of a bird in the woods and so on. So music surely has meaning for everyone, in some way or other. And, of course, it has special meaning for everyone, in some way or other. And, of course, it has special meaning for those who have spent all their lives working on playing or writing music.
It is well said,“Through music a child enters into a world of beauty, expresses himself from his heart, feels the joy of doing things along, learns to take care of others, develops his mind and makes his body strong.”
( ) 36. What does the writer say more about in the text?
A. Life full of music. B. Life without music.
C. Importance of music. D. Development of music.

( ) 37. Form the text, we know that many people __________.
A. don’t realize the importance of music
B. get along quite well without music
C. go to the concert instead of enjoying music
D. think music would be less exciting than films
答案:A 作者认为“many people get along well without going to the concert and listening to the record”是因为他们没有认识音乐的重要性而已。
( ) 38. In the writer’s opinion,if there was no music in films or TV plays, __________.
A. the cinema and theatre would be quiet B. we would lose some of the audience
C. everything would be as exiting as before D. it would be hard to imagine the result
答案:D 见文章第一段最后一句。
( ) 39. What does the underlined word“melody” mean in the text ?
A flying B. looking C. singing D. living
答案:C 从前面“the rhythm of the sea”进而想到鸟在丛林中的歌唱,两者在一定意义上都属于音乐。
( ) 40. From the last paragraph, we learn the music __________.
A. is very important, especially for children B. is very necessary for our everyday life
C. can make our life exciting and dramatic D. can enter another beautiful word
答案:A 本段大意为通过音乐孩子们能进入一个美妙的世界,还能发展智力,强健身体,可见音乐对孩子而言是十分重要的。

The 21st Century
Sometimes I dream about life in the 21st century. What will it be like? Perhaps some people will go to the moon for a holiday, and some scientists will live under the sea. Maybe we’ll have videophones in every home. We can have a medical examination or do some shopping without leaving our homes.
And I’m sure there’ll be more educational programmes on the radio and TV, so perhaps some children won’t need to go to school every day. They’ll study at home.
Many people don’t like doing housework. Maybe in the 21st century each family will have a robot what to do-shopping, housework, and so on. I believe the dream will be realized.
