It was a sunny winter day. I had gone down the tower when a blind man came toward me. He kept close to the wall, touching it lightly with his arm. I stood still and looked at him walking toward the tower.

"What does a blind man want to climb up the tower for?" I wondered, "Not the view(景色) certainly, perhaps he wants to jump. " Thinking of this terrible reason, I thought I should follow him.

He went up slowly and stopped from time to time. I followed him a few steps behind. When he got to the first corner of the bell tower, I came close to him. "Excuse me," I said as politely as I could, "but I wonder why you came up. "

"You'd never guess. " he said.

"Not the view or the fresh air on this winter day?"

"No. " he said.

"Tell me, then. "

He smiled, "Perhaps climbing up the tower. You have noticed — and yet, not being blind, perhaps you won't — how the sun shines into the tower through the windows here and there, so that one can feel the cool steps suddenly become quite warm, even in winter. But behind the wall there is shade (阴影). There is no place so good as this for feeling the difference between light and darkness. Though I'm blind, I also want to feel the happiness brought by the sunlight. In fact, it isn't my first time to be here. " He said and seemed as pleased as a child.

I had never thought that even a blind man could have his way to enjoy the beautiful life. But we often paid no attention to its value because we never lost it.

The Green Magic Tree House, in India, is the perfect hotel for anybody who likes adventure. Guests must drive for miles through the jungle to find it in the middle of tea and coffee plantation (种植园).

There are two tree houses to choose from, one 30 metres and the other 35 metres above the ground. Both houses have two floors. The bedrooms are above the living area and there are bathrooms and showers. You can get up to rooms and move between floors by using ladders (梯子). You can go from one tree house to the other on a rope bridge. The houses sometimes move about in the wind but the views are fantastic.

Guests can enjoy moving through the jungle, climbing in the mountains, and watching wildlife. There are many unusual plants, birds, and insects in the area.

The Ice Hotel is in Jukkasjarvi, a village in Sweden 200 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle. Every winter, a team of architects, designers and snow builders build the hotel. This year there are 80 rooms.

Outside it can be -37℃, so inside it feels quite comfortable. The hotel has a bar, where guests can drink vodka from glasses made of ice. It's very popular — because there isn't much else to do.

To spend a night at Jules Underwater Lodge in Florida, guests need to scuba dive (潜水) seven metres under the sea. They enter a small house through a door at the bottom of the building. Inside, the kitchen is stored with food and there is a fridge and a microwave oven. There is a hot shower and comfortable beds and lots of books, DVDs and video games. Jolanda Maas, a leader of a research at the Nivel Institute in Utrecht, has reported the result of the study in the magazine BiolMed Central Public Health. It says that people who live closest to green areas in the countryside walk and cycle less often for shorter time than other people.

"We found that there was either no relationship or only a small one between green space and physical activity," said Maas. "People with more green space walk and cycle less often in their spare time. "

People with 20% of green space walked around 250 minutes each week during their spare time compared to 180 minutes for those with 80% of green space.

"This may be because people in the countryside need to use their cars more to get to places such as shops, schools and the doctor's office. " Maas said.

Living near green space also makes no difference in whether people met NHR (全民健身标准) to get 30 minutes of exercise daily, according to a survey (调查) of 5,000 people across the Netherlands (荷兰) .

"The study shows when you just look at how much green space people have, it is not true people are just more physically active," Maas said. "This study shows you don't really need green space."

A rabbit is running into his hole. You may ask, “What happened?”

Well, when a rabbit sees something dangerous, it runs away. Its tail moves up and down as it runs. When other rabbits see this tail moving up and down, they ran, too. They know there is danger. The rabbit has told them something without making a sound. It has given them a signal.

Many other animals use this kind of language. When a bee find s some food, it goes back to his home. It can’t tell the other bees where the food is by speaking to them, but it does dance in the air. This tells the bees where the food is.

But animals say things by making sounds. A dog barks, for examples, when a stranger comes near. A cat purrs(发出呼噜呼噜的声音) when pleased. Some birds make several different sounds, each with its own meaning.

But human beings have something that no animals have---- a large number of words about things, actions, feelings or ideas. We are able to give each other information to tell or inform other people what is in our mind or how we feel. By writing words down we can remind ourselves of the things that have happened, or send messages to people far away. No animals can do this. No animals has the wonderful power of language.

No one knows how man learned to make words. Somehow he learned to make them. As centuries went by, he made more and more new words. This is what we mean by language.

People in different countries made different kinds of words. Today there are about fifteen hundred different languages in the world. A very large English dictionary, for examples, contains four or five hundred thousand words. But we don’t know all these. The words we know are called vocabulary. We should try to make our vocabulary larger. Read as many books as possible. When we met a new word, look it up in the dictionary. A dictionary is the most useful book.

( )66. What’s the meaning of the underlined word?

A.标语 B. 信号 C.唱片 D.图像

( )67. A dog can tell something__________.

A. by giving signals B. by making different sounds

C. by purring D. by barking

( )68. It has been proved that no animals are able to_________.

A. give the others information

B. express their actions and feelings with words

C. tell others how they feel

D. make different sounds, each with its own meaning.

( )69. Generally speaking, what we mean by “vocabulary” is_______.

A. all the words that we know B. more and more words we use

C. all the words we need D. the dictionary which contains thousands of words

( )70. What must we do in order to make our vocabulary larger?

Some countries have large numbers of earthquakes. Japan is one of them. One of the most serious earthquakes in world history took place in Japan in 1923. The shock and fires caused by it destroyed much of Tokyo and Yokohama and left more than 7000 dead. Other countries do not have many. For example s, there are few earthquakes in Britain, France, Germany.

There is often a great noise during an earthquake, but it is not always. The earth rocks. Houses fall down. Railway lines are broken. Sometimes many people are killed in an earthquake. People think earthquakes often happen near volcanoes(火山), but this is not always true. The centers of some are under the sea. The bottom of the sea suddenly moves. The powerful forces inside the earth break the rocks. The coast is rocking and great waves are caused there. These waves travel long distances and rush over the land when they reach it. They are strong enough to break down houses and other buildings; sometimes they break more buildings than earthquak e itself.

What kind of building stands up best in an earthquake? A building with concrete(水泥) walls is perhaps the best. A steel frame(框架) will make it even stronger. The frame holds the different parts together and the walls do not easily fall. There is less chance of fire because concrete and steel(钢材) does not burn. This kind of building is the safest. Today modern concrete and steel apartment buildings are commonly seen in cities of Japan.

76. Why do we say that an earthquake is terrible?

_____________________________________________________________

77. What kind of building is the safest for us to live in against earthquakes?

What would you be like if the entrance exam to senior high school was tomorrow? Peaceful and happy as usual? Or, would you become worried and uneasy?

“I was surprised at how I could get angry so easily with my parents before a big exam,” said Junior 3 student Wang Yangqian from Hefei. “I couldn’t fall asleep even after I’d been in bed for two hours.”

Not only exams but also other things, like a big game, can make you different from how you are usually.

You may act differently because you are stressed out. Stress is what you feel when you are worried or uncomfortable about something. Usually your hands get wet and your heart beats faster. You feel stressed because you might ask too much of yourself some- times. Or, your parents, teachers or classmates put too much pressure on you. This can make you worried. But being stressed is not always a big problem. Everybody, even sports stars, can get a little worried before a big game.

Some kinds of stress are good. Good stress might show up when you’re called on in class or when you have to give a report. This kind of stress can help you get things done well. You may do a better job in your book report if the anxiety pushes you to do more work before you read it to the class.

Sometimes stress can turn into something bad if you keep having stressful feelings for a long time. This kind of stress isn’t going to help you. It can make you sick. You may have trouble paying attention at school and forget things easily.

So, remember to stay relaxed. It won’t be the end of the world, even if you don’t pass the exam.

A. stress only makes people worried B. stress can push you to work harder

C. stress can be good or bad for people D. stress always causes problems

67. According to the passage, what will happen if people are stressed?

A. They will sleep very well. B. Their hearts will beat faster.

C. Their hands will become dirty. D. They will find lots of problems.

Bungee Jumping(蹦极)

More and more people around the world are taking part in some dangerous activities. Of course, many people have climbed the highest mountains or explored unknown parts of the world. Now, however, there are people who want to get quick pleasure from a dangerous activity, which may only last a few minutes or even seconds.

I think bungee jumping is a good example of such an activity. You jump from a high place 200 meters above the ground with an elastic rope(弹力绳)tying to your ankles(脚踝). You fall at up to 150 kilometers an hour until the rope stops you from hitting the ground. It is said that 2,000,000 people around the world have now tried bungee jumping. Other activities, such as jumping from the tall buildings and diving into the sea from the top of high rocks are as dangerous as bungee jumping.

Why do people take part in such activities? Some scientists think it is because life in modern society has become safe and boring. Now life has little excitement.

A) 根据短文内容判断正误(正确的填“T”,错误的填“F”):

76. More and more people are taking part in dangerous activities because life in modern society is very exciting. ( )
