八、阅读表达(共5小题,计10分)

阅读下面短文,根据短文内容回答所提出的问题。

Millions of children now use the Internet, and millions more are coming online each year. Children get interested because they can make things happen with the Internet. Computers will change how children learn, communicate and play.

Some people believe that schools will no longer be necessary in the near future. They said that because of the Internet, there is no longer any need for school buildings, classes and teachers. Perhaps this will be true one day, but if the world has no schools, I can’t imagine how our society will be. In fact, we should learn how to use new technology to make schools better. We should invent a new kind of school that is connected to libraries, museums, science centers, labs and even companies on the Internet. Companies should make learning programs for schools. Scientists or professors could give talks through the Internet. TV stations could develop learning programs for students. Labs could set up websites to show new technology so students could see it in the Internet.

How will this new kind school change the usual way of learning? It is too early to be sure, but it is very exciting to think about it. We are sure that technology will change the way we learn; schools will change as well.

Dear Mrs Smith,

I was a student of yours in Grade Six, and I hope you still remember me. I’m writing this letter because I want to let you know that the school year with you was important and special to me. It made a big contribution to my life.

I know I was very quiet in your class, and you nev¬er said much to me. But you did something that made a big difference in my life. You see, all through my first years in schools, I hated to read. Books were just words that had very little to do with me, and I was bored by them. I’ll never forget the first day of Grade Six when you took out a thick book and began to read the story to our class. Your voice seemed to change with the peo¬ple in the story, and you drew pictures in my mind as you read aloud. Since that day, I couldn’t wait until af¬ter lunch when you would read to the class. You read us all kinds of wonderful books.

During the summer after my year in your class, I missed hearing the stories you would read. So one day I picked up a book and read it all on my own.. I found out that I could make the words interesting, too. Now, I love to read! Thank you for opening the world of books for me.

Yours

Linda

At one time or another we have all stopped to think about the weather. Some days the weather is good. Some days the weather is bad. Sometimes a day that seems bad turns out better than you thought it would. There are ways of understanding the weather. One way is to study the clouds.

No two clouds are ever alike. We can see the dif¬ferent kinds of clouds and watch them for signs of changing weather. To forecast the weather, there are three things about clouds you should look for: move¬ment, colour, and change.

As a rule, the higher the clouds, the better the weather. And the lower the clouds, the worse the weather is likely to be. Fair-weather cumulus clouds (积云) are another sign of good weather. These are clouds we often see on warm summer days. Clouds can tell you if a storm is on the way. If the thick, fluffy cu¬mulus clouds get bigger early in the day, then you know it will rain. If there is a sudden, cool and dark thunder (雷) cloud appears, then a storm is about to break out.

Colours in the sky tell us about the weather, too. A golden ring around the moon warns us that a storm is on the way. A watery yellow sunset is a sign that rain may be near.

The rainbow(彩虹) has a message, too. The col¬ours of the rainbow come from the sun rays shining through falling rain. If you see the sun in the east and a rainbow in the west, the rain may be coming your way. If the sun is in the west and the rainbow is in the east, the rain will be moving away from you.

I’ve loved my mother’s desk since I was just tall enough to see above the top of it as Mother sat doing letters(学问). Standing by her chair, looking at the ink bottle, pens, and white paper, I decided that the act of writing must be the most wonderful thing in the world.

Years later, during her final illness, Mother kept different things for my sister and brother. “Buy the desk,” she’d said again, “is for Elizabeth.” I never saw her anger, never saw her cry. I knew she loved me: she showed it in action. But as a young girl, I wanted heart-to-heart talks between mother and daughter.

They never happened. And a gulf opened between us. I was “too emotional (易动感情的)”. But she lived “on the surface”.

As years passed and I had my own family. I loved my mother and thanked her for our happy family. I wrote to her in careful words and asked her to let me know in any way she chose that she did forgive(原谅) me.

I posted the letter and waited for her answer. None came. My hope turned to disappointment, then little in¬terest and, finally, peace—it seemed that nothing hap¬pened. I couldn’t be sure that the letter had even got to Mother. I only knew that I had written it, and I could stop trying to make her into someone she was not.

Now the present of her desk told me, as she’d never been able to, that she was pleased that writing was my chosen work. I cleaned the desk carefully and found some papers inside — a photo of my father and a one-page letter, folded(折叠) and refolded many times.

Give me an answer, my letter asks, in any way you choose. Mother, you always chose the act that speaks louder than words.

A. deep understanding between the old and the young

B. different ideas between the mother and the daughter

C. free talks between mother and daughter

Happiness is for everyone. You don’t need to care about those people who have beautiful houses with large gardens and swimming pools or those who have nice cars and a lot of money and so on. Why? Because those who have big houses may often feel lonely and those who have cars may want to walk on the country roads at their free time.

In fact, happiness is always around you if you put your heart into it. When you are in trouble at school, your friends will help you; when you study hard at your lessons, your parents are always taking good care of your life and your health; when you get success, your friends will say congratulations to you; when you do something wrong, people around you will help you to correct it. And when you do something good to others, you will feel happy, too. All these are your happiness. If you notice them, you can see that happiness is always around you.

Happiness is not the same as money. It is a feeling of your heart. When you are poor, you can also say you are very happy, because you have something else that can’t be bought with money. When you meet with difficulties, you can say loudly you are very happy, because you have more chances to challenge (挑战)yourself. So you cannot always say you are poor and you have bad luck. As the saying goes, life is like a revolving (旋转) door. When it closes, it also opens. If you take every chance you get, you can be a happy and lucky person.

61. Happiness is for______.

A. those who have large and beautiful houses B. those who have cars

C. those who have a lot of money D. all people

62. When you do something wrong,______.

A. people around you will help you B. you will have no chance to challenge yourself

C. your classmates will laugh at you D. you will be happy

63. Which is true according to the passage?______.

A. When you get success, your friends will be very proud of you.

B. You can get help from others when you make mistakes.

C. You can still be a happy person even if you have little money.

D. All the above.

64. Why do we say “Happiness is not the same as money”? Because______.

A. money always brings happiness B. money doesn’t always bring happiness

C. everything can be bought with money D. only rich people have happiness

65. Which is the title of the passage?______.

A. Happiness B. Happy and Lucky C. Do Something Good to Others D. life and Success
