听力材料
Text 1:
W: Do you go to work on foot every day?
M: Well, it’s too far to walk to work. But whenever the bus is too crowded, I wish someone would give me a ride.
Text 2:
W: Would you please sit down and wait for a few minutes, sir?
M: No, I can’t. I can wait no longer. I have got to go immediately.
Text 3:
M: Could you give me a ride to the Modern Art Museum on your way to the office?
W: I’m sorry but I’m not going to the office today. You might ask Linda. She’s leaving around half past eight.
Text 4:
W: Attention, please, boys and girls! I have some good news to tell you.
M: What’s it, Miss Yang?
W: We’ll spend our weekend visiting the Chang’an Car Factory. We’ll start out at 8:00
tomorrow morning. Please get ready for it.
Text 5:
W: Mr. Johnson, I wonder if I could possibly ask for leave tomorrow morning. My father had a heart attack yesterday and is in the hospital at the moment. I want to go to look after him.
M: Oh, I’m sorry to hear that. Go ahead; I hope your father will be better soon.
W: Thanks very much. I’ll deal with the work as soon as I return.
Text 6:
W: You are not eating your breakfast.
M: I don’t feel very well.
W: Oh, dear. What’s the matter?
M: I got a terrible headache.
W: You must go back to bed, you don’t look very well.
M: I don’t want to cause any bother. I’d rather work it off.
W: Out of the question. You must go to bed and keep warm.
Text 7:
M: Hello, Yang Mei. I hear you’re going to the United States.
W: Yes, I’m going with my grandma. We’re going to see my parents in New Jersey.
M: When are you leaving, then?
W: This Friday evening. Our plane leaves at seven fifteen.
M: How long will you stay there?
W: Six months.
M: Six months! Are you going to travel to many places?
W: Of course, I am. I want to see as many places as I can. How can I travel when I get there?
M: Most people travel by car. The roads are very good.
W: But I don’t have a car and I can’t drive. Is there any other way to travel?
M: You can travel by bus. It’s very cheap.
W: Can’t I travel by train?
M: Yes, you can. The train is expensive in the States, but it’s fast.
W: Thank you very much. Well, I must be off now. See you when I get back.
M: Good luck and have a pleasant trip.
Text 8:
M: Hello, Susan. I haven’t seen you for ages.
W: Hello, Brian. It’s nice to see you again.
M: Come on here. I’ll introduce you to the artist.
W: Perhaps I should have a look round first. I see he’s busy at the moment.
M: Of course. I’ll go with you.
W: This painting is great. Look at the colors. They blend together so well.
M: Yes, I think he’s bright. He has some beautiful paintings. Come this way and I’ll show you some of his new works.
W: Oh… fantastic. This is really a different style. It’s more detailed and the colors are softer. It’s not bad but I prefer the painting we saw just now.
M: Ah. There’s the artist. It seems that he has time now. Would you like to meet him right now?
W: Sure, I’d love to. Thank you.

W: What do you mean? You’ve been working for nearly a year. Have you been fired by Cedar Deck?
M: No. My mother doesn’t know I have a part-time job.
W: Why didn’t you tell her?
M: Because I didn’t want her to worry about my study.
W: But, why are you telling her now?
M: I don’t want her to worry about my life here now. You see, I have just told her that I had bought a second-hand car.
Text 10:
The society today is much freer and easier than it used to be. It is no longer necessary to dress like everyone else. Within reason, you can dress as you like or do your hair the way you like instead of the way you should because it is the fashion. The popularity of jeans and untidy look seem to be reaction against the increasingly expensive fashions of the top fashion houses.
But, in my opinion, appearance is more and more important and we must choose our clothes carefully. It is some kind of stupid to go on a job interview in the civil service wearing jeans and a sweater, and it would be impolite to visit the elderly persons dressing up as if we were going to the beach or a bar and some places like that.
However, you don’t need to feel sad if you don’t look like the latest fashion photo. Look around you and you will see that no one else does either!
