One possible version:

Good Behavior should Start on the Way to School

These days, breaking traffic rules and littering are not uncommon, which causes serious harm to life and the environment. Changing this situation requires our great effort on the part of everyone. As for me, it should start on my way to school.

I will keep traffic rules in mind all the way. If I ride a bike, I'll always keep to the right and never cross a road until the traffic light turns green. If I walk, I'll never forget to use the pedestrian crossing.  In this way, we’ll be safe and live in harmony. Meanwhile, I will regard it as my duty to help keep our environment clean and healthy. Not only will I keep from littering and spitting (吐痰)anywhere, I will also help clean up the roadside litter whenever possible.[:]

Everyone can change the world. Every little step can make a big difference.

(Text 1)

W: When did you buy this laptop, Tom?

M: It’s not mine. My sister Alice borrowed it from Lisa, and I’m using it now.

(Text 2)

W: Did you get the gas for the car?

M: Oh, I forgot. We’d better get some on our way back, though when the movie finishes, we should get some dinner before we leave.

(Text 3)

M: When does the concert start?

W: At 8:10 pm, half an hour from now.

M: Oh, no. That clock is fifteen minutes fast. We’d better hurry up, or we will be late.

(Text 4)

M: Hi. I am thinking of taking a trip during the Christmas holidays.

W: Where would you like to go?

M: Well, maybe somewhere warm and sunny.

W: How about a tour to Southeast Asia?

(Text 5)

M: Hi, Mary. Is your brother John still playing the drums?

W: Yes, he still plays. He quite likes it. I’m learning the piano.

M: Really? Perhaps you can play in our band one day.

W: Can I? John always tells me I should pay the guitar if I want to be in a band because all bands have guitar players.

(Text 6)

M: Oh, no! I can’t find my wallet!

W: Your wallet? How is that possible?

M: Yes. At the movies, I paid for the popcorn. Do you think I left it there?

W: No, I don’t think so, because you gave me $10 for the hot dogs after the movies at that new hot dog place.

M: And after that we went to the convenience store. You paid for the chocolate there.

W: Yeah, and then I paid for the taxi ride back home. Right! I know where you left it!

(Text 7)

M: Can I help you , madam?

W: Yes. I bought this jacket here last week. I wore it once, and now look at it. I was hoping to get my money back.

M: Do you have receipt?

W: Yes ,right here.

W: Thanks. I’m wondering whether you washed it by hand or washing machine, perhaps.

W: No, I had it dry cleaned. I’m actually a fashion designer. I have never seen a piece of clothing look like this after it only once…unless there is a problem with the cloth. I’d be happy to speak with your manager.

M: No, that’s all right, madam. I can do what you asked.

(Text 8)

W: You look like you’re over the moon. What happened?

M: Guess what! That job interview went well. I received an offer from Mercedes-Banz!

W: Mercedes-Benz? Congratulations! Its S-class is my dream car. Tell me more. Will you be a salesman?

M: No. I will be a secretary first, and then I’ll move up to be a manager’s assistant if I do better next year. I don’t mind working extra hours, but the hardest thing is that this position will require frequent travel.

W: Does it pay well?

M: No, not very well, but I value the experience far more than the money, since I’m very new to the workplace. It will be tiring, but I will surely learn a lot.

W: Yes, you’re right. No pain, no gain.

M: Oh, look at the time! I have to get to my business English class. You know, English is the working language in the company.

W: You are really something.

(Text 9)

W: Good morning, Mr. Evans. Did you have a nice weekend?

M: Not really. My wife and my daughter were arguing the whole weekend about God knows what, and my son came down with the flu, so we had to miss a really important football game that I had gotten tickets to.

W: That’s too bad. Is he feeling any better now?

M: A little bit. So, what’s on the schedule for today?

W: You’ve got a 10:00 am meeting about the Peterson project, and you’re having lunch with Valerie Dumonde. She wanted to talk to you before she leaves for Paris this evening.

M: Right. What time is the reservation?

W: 12:30. The car will pick you up downstairs at noon and take you over to her office. It shouldn’t take more than ten minutes to get there, and  another five from her office to Charmaine’s. You’ll have plenty of time.

M: All right. What about the afternoon?

W: Well, so far, it looks like you just have the regular 3:00 pm managers’ meeting.

M: That’s a relief. Maybe I’ll even make it out of there on time today.

W: Well, that would be a first. Mr. Evans, but I will keep my fingers crossed!

(Text 10)

Thanks for calling our competition center. Here is all the information you will need to enter our exciting painting competition. First, you must send in your paintings by the thirty-first of August. We need them all in by that date because the winning paintings will have to be in the show held from October 5th to November 1st at the School of Arts.

The next bit of information is the topic of the competition. Last year’s topic of “Cities” was very successful. This year we’d like to see paintings showing your ideas on the subject of “The Future”. Think about your world, your family and home ---how might it look one hundred years from now?

We welcome entries from school groups. Schools can win a special course with Barry Wells, an artist from Australia who’s produced pictures for many children’s storybooks sold here in England. He is doing classes in France now.

Good luck and happy painting!
