二、不同情态动词的否定意义

1.can?not

can't可译为“不会”。如：

I can?not play basketball. 我不会打篮球。

当表推测时，用can?not 表示“不可能”。 如：

He can?not be ill. He is playing chess with Tom.

他不可能病了，他正和汤姆下棋呢。

can?not 还可用来回答“May I...?” 这样的问句。 如：

—May I come in? 我可以进来吗?

—No, you can?not. 不，你不能。

can?not 还可用于固定习语中。如：

She can?not help crying. 她不禁大哭起来。

2.must?not

must not 表示否定意义，意为“禁止，不允许”。如：

3.need?not

4.should?not 表示“不应该”。 如：

三、情态动词表示推测

1. must表示肯定推测，意为“一定”，语气最强烈。如：

They must be very tired after a long walk. 走了这么长的路，他们一定很累了。

2. may表示肯定推测，意为“也许”，语气一般。如：

Your sister may be waiting for you now. 你的妹妹也许正在等你呢。

3. might表示肯定推测，意为“或许”，语气更弱。如：She might have gone to the library. She likes reading in the afternoon. 她或许去图书馆了。她喜欢下午的时候看书。
