You've probably heard of working dogs that help police officers. Or horses that help farmers. Did you know that carrier pigeons can be trained to help people too? Here are some examples.
Mailman
Carrier pigeons can be trained to carry messages to people. The note is placed into a small can. The can is tied to the pigeon's leg. Then the pigeon flies off with the note.
Lifeguard
From high up in the sky, specially trained pigeons can spot orange life jackets in the ocean. Sometimes it is difficult for humans to spot people lost at sea, especially when the weather is bad. However, pigeons can fly quickly over a large area of water to look for people.
Spy
Many years ago, carrier pigeons were used to help our country during wars. "Spy pigeons" had small cameras that were tied to their feet. As a pigeon flew over enemy land, the camera took photos of the land below. This would allow our soldiers to see where the enemies were and what they were doing.
So next time you see a pigeon, stop and watch it closely. What might look like an ordinary bird to most people might actually be helpful.
46. What kind of people can the carrier pigeons find?
A. The people in orange life jackets at sea.
B. The people in red jackets in the boats.
C. The people swimming in the ocean.
D. The people lost in the mountains.
47. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?

D. A pigeon carried the camera to take photos of the enemy land.
48. What is the purpose of writing this article?

Text messaging, or "texting", which allows people to send and receive messages on mobile phones, becomes very popular today.
The advantages of texting are obvious. Texting helps to save money. If you have a few words to greet your families and friends on their birthdays or on some important festivals, sending messages can be cheaper than phone calling. Texting helps to save time. Even if you want to send a message t0 100 people, you can do it in one second. Texting helps you to "talk" to someone when he is too busy to answer the phone. Texting can also help you to "talk" to someone secretly if you don't want others to hear what you are talking on the phone. These advantages are so amazing that many people are crazy about it. They hold mobile phones in hands all day long, send dozens of messages each day, and even text while driving or walking. However, texting has its disadvantage. Junk messages may come into your mobile phone box now and then. When your phone box gets too full, you can't receive any more messages. You may therefore miss some important information.
What's more, if you don't do texting properly, for example, texting while driving or walking, it can be dangerous. It can cause injuries and even death. It was reported that about 6,000 people were killed and half a million were injured for this reason each year. In Fort Lee, a small town in New Jersey, USA, three people died because they walked into traffic while texting in 2011. Two researchers at Stony Brook University, New York found that texters are 60% more probably to have an accident than others. When people are texting, they don't notice other people or things around them. To reduce traffic accidents, all drivers of the UN are now not allowed to text while driving. About 32 countries have passed laws restricting the use of mobile phones while driving.
Texting is a wonderful way of communication. However, only when we use it properly, can we fully enjoy the fun it brings.
49. How many advantages of texting are mentioned in the passage?
A. Two. B. Three. C. Four. D. Five

An Englishman named PhilShaw invented extreme ironing in 1997 because he was bored doing ironing at home.
Extreme ironing is a special kind of outdoor sport. It combines (使结合) danger and excitement with practical ironing.
Who does extreme ironing? People all over the world who like danger do it. There are about l,000 people around the world who do extreme ironing. There are extreme ironing clubs and groups in Britain, Germany, South Africa, New Zealand and the United States. You don't have to have any special qualifications (资格证明)to do it. In fact, anyone can do it. However, it is better to start ironing in your back yard before you start to iron on top of a mountain.
There are, of course, some rules in extreme ironing. The ironing must be outdoor. You must take an iron, an ironing board, and something that you actually iron to get the wrinkles out. Outdoors includes faraway and unusual places, such as on top of a mountain, while skiing, snowboarding, skydiving, or under water. There are no limits. The more unusual the better. However, you should plan carefully because weather conditions can suddenly change on mountains, for example. You should not do extreme ironing on your own.
What kind of things should you have? You must have a real iron. Travel irons are acceptable. You must not use plastic or toy irons. The clothes you iron must be at least the size of a hand towel. It shouldn't be just a handkerchief. The board doesn't have to be fullsize board, but that is preferred. It must be one metre long and thirty centimeters wide and have legs. You must also have proof of ironing that is either a photo or a video, and it should show a recognizable landmark. Be aware that people have already ironed near the top of Everest, the highest mountain in the world, and in the Blue Hole in Egypt, one of the most dangerous places to dive. However, there are still many records to break. Iron on!

On a cloudy afternoon last September, Rubio watched Texas National Guard soldiers help passengers off planes at a small airport near College Station. All of them were running away from Hurricane (飓风) Ike. They had something else in common as well. Each passenger wore a bright yellow wristband (腕带) , RFID, developed by Rubio's company. The wristband had a computer chip, which allowed the state's emergency response center (急救中心) to follow the person who wore it.
"The wristband really made a difference," says Rubio, adding that thousands of families who called the state's emergency response center during the hurricane were able to find loved ones. The wristbands also made a lot of money for Bubio's company.
That's a goal Rubio could not have imagined even a few years ago, as a 36-year-old stay-at-home mum with three kids under ten and a husband who travelled for work five days a week. "All I wanted was to have my family back together," she says.
Rubio considered doing something different after the birth of her third child and returned to work. A-friend suggested the technology of RFID. It wasn't new but was mainly used to find packages. Rubio began imagining wider use of RFID, and in 2005 the wristband appeared at a business conference and did a good job. In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the company further used the technology, and later during Ike about 27,000 people were successfully saved.
"I'm a mum with three kids or a woman in a technology field. I've succeeded and got confidence," Rubio also achieved something else. She finally has the family life she always wanted.

D. be found easily by other people
58. Rubio decided to return to work because______________.
A. she wanted to make money
B. she liked the new technology
C. she needed a change in life

A. Very well. B. All right. C. Not well. D. Very badly.
