I was born and grew up in South Wales. My favorite place to play was out on the hills where my imagination had plenty of space to expand (拓展). My family moved out of Wales when I was thirteen. I went to a new school. One of my subjects was French. Because I had never learned any French, my teacher told me to sit in the corner and write anything I was interested in. That’s the time I started writing, just for myself, and I’ve been writing ever since.

I have always loved BIG IDEAS, and so I enjoy writing fantastic stories. And I also write horror (恐怖). I think they are like the old fairytales (童话故事) ，and can teach you important things.

I am in my forties on the outside, twelve on the inside. I like rock music, Indian and Chinese food, and I enjoy drinking. One evening, Mark and Amy went for a ride in Mark's car. They parked on a hill. Mark turned on the radio, and a policeman broke in with a piece of news. He said a murderer had escaped from prison (监狱). The murderer's left hand was missing and in its place, he wore a hook (钩子).

"Let's close the windows and doors," said Amy.

"That's a good idea," said Mark.

"You know," said Amy, "that prison isn't too far away. I think we really should go home."

"Look, Amy," Marie argued, "that prisoner is not going to climb all the way up here. Even if he did, all the doors are closed. How could he get in?"

"Mark, he could take that hook and break the window," she said. "I'm scared. I want to go home!"

As he started the car, Amy thought she heard someone, or something, scratching (抓) at her door.

"Did you hear that?" she asked. "It sounded like somebody was trying to get in!" "Oh sure!" said Mark.

Soon they arrived home. When Mark got out of the car, he found something hanging on the door handle (把手) — a hook!
